history

This cemetery was first mentioned in the original map from 1829. There it is registered as an 81 m² burial place in parcel 157. However, it is much older. The first burial on record took place in May 1822. It was Leeser Isaac, born on March 9, 1822, and died on April 30, 1822. Burials for the years 1828 and 1838 can be found in the death register.

The first violations took place as early as 1859. On April 25, 1859, the Amtman W. Freiherr von Böselager announced that people who tampered with the fencing of the Jewish cemetery could face severe punishment.

In 1867 the site belonged to the Jewish community . Another change of ownership took place in 1902. Isaac Blumenthal signed the property over to his son Abraham.

The last funeral took place in 1883. It was about the funeral of the 52-year-old Julie Blumenthal. In the following years the cemetery was closed. From then on, the Jewish community buried its deceased in the cemetery on Ostenallee.

In 1944 this cemetery was totally destroyed in a bomb attack. Only a bomb crater and an old oak tree remind of this cemetery.

Until 1956 the property still appeared on the cadastral maps. In 1985 the site was built over.
