Jewish cemetery (Hornburg)

Coordinates: 52 ° 1 ′ 36.6 ″  N , 10 ° 36 ′ 23.6 ″  E The Hornburg Jewish Cemetery is a cemetery in the town of Hornburg , a district of the Schladen-Werla municipalityin the Wolfenbüttel district in Lower Saxony .

There are around 60 gravestones in the 1,651 m² Jewish cemetery south of the village on the slope of the Hagenberg on Judengasse .

history

The cemetery was occupied from the middle of the 17th century until 1923. The first documented burial took place in 1701. At the end of the 17th century the cemetery in Hornburg was also used by the Jewish community in Wolfenbüttel; this was only allowed to create its own cemetery in 1724 .
