The Billerbeck Jewish cemetery is a Jewish cemetery in Billerbeck , a town in the Coesfeld district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The cemetery is located on the outskirts in the direction of Rorup and has been a listed building since 1995 .

history

In the second half of the 17th century the first Jews settled in Billerbeck. A Jewish cemetery has existed near today's cemetery since the 1760s, but no visible traces have been preserved.

The Jewish community in Billerbeck first buried their dead in the Jewish cemetery in Coesfeld . The newly built Jewish cemetery in Billerbeck was first occupied in 1879 and the last burial was in 1939. Today there are still 20 tombstones ( Mazewot ) in the cemetery.
