history

The cemetery was laid out in the second half of the 15th century, not far from where it is today. The oldest gravestone with a legible inscription dates from 1625, others follow from 1628 and 1641. After a flood, the cemetery was expanded in 1888. Immediately after the entrance gate is a well-preserved ceremonial hall, built in 1903.

After the Second World War , after the members of the Jewish community (around 300 people) were deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1942, the cemetery was no longer used. The necessary restoration of the cemetery and the Jewish quarter was carried out in the early 1990s a. a. Realized with the help of a loan from the American Housing Guarantee Fund and the whole area is in very good condition today.
