Jewish cemetery in Groß Neuendorf
The Jewish cemetery Groß Neuendorf is located in Groß Neuendorf , a district of the Letschin municipality in the Märkisch-Oderland district . It was built around the middle of the 19th century and was the Jewish cemetery for the local Jewish community founded by Michael Sperling (1803–1866) in 1847 . The oldest of the around 35 preserved tombstones ( Mazevot ) dates from 1842.
During the time of National Socialism , the cemetery was desecrated several times and ultimately largely destroyed. In 1992/94 it was repaired on the initiative of the YMCA and in 2008 it was documented in pictures and text by the project Jewish cemeteries in Brandenburg .
