Müncheberg Jewish Cemetery (September 2016)

The Müncheberg Jewish Cemetery is located on Eggersdorfer Weg in Müncheberg , a town in the Märkisch-Oderland district in Brandenburg .

On the approximately 900 m² Jewish cemetery south of the city (exit towards Frankfurt / Oder) on a slope at the corner of Tempelsberger Weg / Eggersdorfer Weg, around 20 gravestones from the years 1763 to 1846 still exist. These are roughly in the middle of the cemetery. The approximately 40 tombstones from the years 1846 to 1902 are located in a burial field with five rows. The youngest stone is from 1932. The cemetery is surrounded on three sides by a massive wall.

history

After the magistrate had given the Jews a piece of land to be used as a burial place for a fee, the cemetery was laid out in 1756. In 1837 it was enlarged and surrounded on three sides by a massive wall. The cemetery was desecrated several times : in 1992, individual graves were willfully damaged; in September 1992 ten gravestones were smeared with Nazi slogans.
