The younger ceiling gravel (after Albrecht Penck ) is a river terrace that was created during the Mindel glacial period .
Penck first recognized the importance of river terraces for the structure of the Pleistocene in 1882 . The younger ceiling gravel today forms, for example, interrupted forest and arable areas on the edge of a river landscape or a gravel border along a mountain slope.
