Jürgen "Timo" Ulitzka (born November 22, 1960 ) is a former German soccer player who became German junior champions twice in a row with MSV Duisburg and then played five Bundesliga games.

Career

Double title win in the youth field

During the 1976/77 season, the then 16-year-old Ulitzka was in the A-youth squad of Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg and made it into the final of the 1977 A-Junior championship with the team trained by Rolf Schafstall . In this he was successful as a double goal scorer after initially leading the opponent VfB Stuttgart and thus made a significant contribution to the 2-1 success of his team. In the following year, Friedhelm Wenzlaff defended his title against Hertha Zehlendorf . Ulitzka was again able to contribute two goals to the 5-2 of MSV.

Short professional career

The youngster was considered very talented and was promoted to the Duisburg Bundesliga squad for the 1978/79 season. The trained striker made his debut in the top German division a little later, when he was substituted on for national player Rudi Seliger on September 2, 1978 in a 3-2 defeat by Werder Bremen in the 55th minute . He had succeeded in this at the age of 17, but in the following time he was only considered for further assignments very sporadically. Since nothing had changed in this situation by the summer break in 1981 and he had not made it past five games without scoring, he turned his back on MSV and switched to Rot-Weiss Essen, who played a league lower . In Essen he was called up quite often and booked 20 contested second division games before he left the club in 1982 after just one year. This ended his time in paid football at the age of 21. Ulitzka, who once said he wanted to either become a professional footballer or a banker , then decided on a future career at a bank.
