J-Cart

J-Cart from Codemasters

The J-Cart was a memory module developed by Codemasters for the Sega Mega Drive with two integrated controller connections, so that four players could compete against each other at the same time without a multiplayer adapter .

The two multiplayer adapters from Electronic Arts and Sega available for the Mega Drive were incompatible with each other, so that Codemasters saw the J-Cart as a sensible alternative that was also inexpensive to manufacture.

Due to the late market launch in the product life cycle of the Mega Drive, the success of the J-Cart was relatively modest, the games with J-Cart remained manageable and only came from Codemasters themselves:

  • Pete Sampras tennis
  • Micro Machines 2, 96, Military
  • Great skidmarks

Some of these games were later re-launched as a normal module.
