J wheel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The J-wheel is a vehicle with pedal drive invented by the Austrian engineer and aerodynamicist Paul Jaray and a patent pending in Switzerland on September 1, 1921 .

execution

Instead of pedals, the J-wheel had pedal levers that drove the rear wheel via wire ropes. By positioning the feet on notches that were attached to the pedal levers at different heights, the leverage and thus the translation could be influenced. A rim brake was attached to the front and rear wheel for deceleration .

The relatively small wheels and the low seating position resulted in a favorable center of gravity; there is also talk of a chair wheel . The flat seating position made as for a relation to the normal Niederrad lower air resistance.

Luggage racks that could be attached over the front and rear wheels were available as accessories.

The J-wheel was built at the Hesperus works in Cannstatt from 1921 onwards , but production was stopped again in 1923 after fatal accidents occurred.
