JF Cantrell
JF Cantrell († 1945 ) invented the laundromat in 1934 .
Many people in Fort Worth , Texas in the early 1930s couldn't afford to have their clothes dry and didn't have the money to buy their own washing machine. So he bought four washing machines and on April 18, 1934 opened the first self-service cleaning facility , called Washateria , later Laundromat .
