J.Fink was a printing and publishing group founded in 1875 and based in Ostfildern - Kemnat . The J.Fink group included the J.Fink printing works ( web offset ), the Dr. Cantz'sche Druckerei ( sheet-fed offset ) and Hatje Cantz - Verlag . On February 8, 2011, the J.Fink Mediengruppe and its subsidiaries filed for insolvency.

history

In 1875 Johann Jacob Fink founded the J. Fink book printing company in Stuttgart. In 1889 Jacob Fink was appointed "court book printer". Publishing began in 1894. In 1934, after working for the company for ten years, Pauline Fink took on her nephew Rolf Helmut Fausel as a partner. The company was destroyed in an air raid in 1944. In 1949, Pauline Fink and her nephew Rolf Helmut Fausel began rebuilding the printing and publishing house. In 1960 Pauline Fink died; the shares were transferred to Rolf Helmut Fausel, who became the sole owner. In 1967 Rolf Helmut Fausel took on the volunteer Arthur Grunder as a partner in the company and jointly transferred the management to his son Thomas Fausel and Arthur Grunder.

1970 followed the move from Stuttgart to Ostfildern (Kemnat) and complete conversion from letterpress to offset printing . In 1973 the first web offset press went into operation. In 1986 there was a participation in the Dr. Cantz'sche print shop. In 1993 the complete takeover of Dr. Cantz'schen print shop. Thomas Fausel left the company in 1994 and Arthur Grunder became the sole owner. In 2000 Pallino Media Integration was taken over. In 2005, the printing capacities in sheetfed offset (Dr. Cantz'sche Druckerei) and web offset (J.Fink Druckerei) were expanded. In 2006, the group was concentrated in Ostfildern-Kemnat and the Pallino Media Integration company was integrated into the Cantz printing company while the "Cantz Media Management" division was being set up at the same time. In 2007 the printing company "Drucklinie Detmold" was taken over and J.Fink's web offset West was set up. Arthur Grunder died in April 2010. The company J.Fink West Rollenoffset GmbH ceased printing on May 20, 2011 and filed for bankruptcy. Around 100 workers in Detmold lost their jobs due to the bankruptcy. In August 2011, the Oberndorfer Druckerei from Austria took over J.Fink Druck.

J.Fink printing houses

The J.Fink printing companies with their locations in Ostfildern / Kemnat (Greater Stuttgart area) and Detmold (Westphalia) produce high-volume and target group-specific supplements, catalogs and customer magazines in web offset printing. According to their own statements, the companies are among the "Top Ten" offset printing companies in Germany and Europe. Since November 1, 2007, the J.Fink printing works have been operating a total of seven rotary presses in the formats 16 to 80 pages at two locations , four of five presses at the Ostfildern location in a 4-shift system. On July 18, 2011, the J.Fink printing company was taken over by the Austrian Oberndorfer Druckerei based in Oberndorf near Salzburg, a company of the international Circle Printers Group.

Dr. Cantz'sche print shop

It was founded in 1933 by Dr. Hugo Cantz. In 1958 the world's first color art catalog for Roman Norbert Ketterer was printed . In 1987 the J.Fink printing company took part in the Dr. Cantz'schen print shop. In 1990 the Gerd Hatje publishing house was taken over and merged with Cantz Verlag to form Hatje Cantz. In 1993 the complete takeover of Dr. Cantz'schen Druckerei by J.Fink-Druckerei. Traditionally, Dr. Cantz'sche Druckerei on all sheet-fed printed matter in the upper quality segment.

The Dr. From the very beginning, Cantz'sche Druckerei defined itself as a specialist in high-quality sheet-fed printing (initially letterpress , later offset printing ). It was taken over by the Wurzel media group in 2011 .

Hatje Cantz Publishing House

In 1945, the foundation of the Humanitas publishing house was made by Gerd Hatje , there appear short stories , novels and pieces of world literature. In 1947 the name was changed to Verlag Gerd Hatje; from the 1950s books on the fine arts , modern architecture and international design are published. In 1990 the Gerd Hatje publishing house was sold to Dr. Cantz'sche print shop. Hatje Cantz emerged from the merger of the Cantz and Gerd Hatje publishers. The publisher publishes on art and architecture, new media and photography. The publishing program includes 600 works by various artists and museums. Today he is part of the Ganske publishing group in Hamburg.

J.Fink Holding

The holding company J.Fink Beteiligungen GmbH bundles the entire activities of the group as a "financial and real estate holding" in the sub-tasks of corporate strategy and representation of interests at the shareholder level, financing issues, real estate, and training. The holding company was dissolved in 2011 due to bankruptcy.
