The root Media Group is a group of twelve German companies in six locations to which services digital printing , sheet - and web offset printing , book production , photography and media design , virtual reality applications, and mobile apps are. The group is one of the ten largest commercial printers in Baden-Württemberg. Part of the association is, among others, the Dr. Cantz'sche Druckerei Medien , which has an internationally dominant position in the field of printing art publications in faithful reproduction quality and also creates and maintains the catalogs of works of important artists such as Ernst Wilhelm Nay and Gerhard Richter . Cantz became internationally known in 1968 with the printing of the catalog for the Bauhaus exhibition in Stuttgart. Since then, Cantz has been a household name in the art world and especially in the American museum world such as the MoMA in New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art .
history
Heinz Wurzel laid the foundation stone for the Wurzel Mediengruppe in 2002 when he took over the Scheel printing company in Waiblingen. Since then, the trained printer has continued to expand the company. Against the industry trend, he gradually acquired or founded the 12 companies that belong to the group today. Some of these establishments such as B. Cantz, Schefenacker and Wirtz have a long tradition and were thus saved from being closed.
The number of employees and sales has grown continuously since the company was founded. Today, the group of companies generates annual sales of around EUR 50 million with a total of 365 employees. This development is primarily due to the link between print products and new media .
The association is led by the owner Heinz Wurzel. The headquarters were in Waiblingen until 2017, and in October 2017 they moved into a new company building in Esslingen, which today houses most of the companies. Further locations are Baden-Baden, Düsseldorf, Schwäbisch Hall, Speyer and Berlin.
Corporate structure
The companies in the group are legally independent and specialize in different areas of focus. According to the company website, the disciplines work together synergistically .

criticism
Shortly after the takeover of the Schaupp print shop in 2012, the Wurzel Mediengruppe intended to lay off employees due to the high investment volume due to environmental regulations. Schaupp was technically in a much worse condition than expected. Thanks to an agreement with the employees and the environmental authority in 2014, the high investments could be made and the company continued to exist.
