Jacket (foundation)

A jacket ( pronounced in English : [ ˈdʒækɪt ]) is a form of foundation for offshore structures in construction .

Jackets are square half-timbered structures made of steel tubes , the upper end of which protrudes from the sea after installation. The jacket itself is on the seabed. At least one pile is driven into the ground through the sleeves at the four corners for anchoring . On a jacket z. B. a conventional wind turbine , a transformer platform or a drilling platform can be built.

The advantage of founding with the help of jackets is that they can be used in relatively great water depths. For example, the first German offshore wind farm, alpha ventus, is partly based on jackets; the water depth of the North Sea there is around 30 meters. Construction with jackets has been tried and tested for several decades, especially when it is used to build drilling platforms.
