Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Prize (GDR)
The Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Prize of the GDR was in 1979 awarded by the Minister of Higher and Specialized Education of the German Democratic Republic for outstanding scientific and educational achievements in the promotion of the German language and German studies abroad. It was named after the Brothers Grimm .
The prize was awarded to individuals and collectives and was endowed with 5,000 marks (for groups of up to 10,000 marks). It could be awarded to citizens of other countries and GDR citizens if they were Germanists, German lecturers, German teachers, authors of textbooks and media programs in the field of "German as a Foreign Language" or translators.
