Jacob Alberty
Jakob Alberty (born October 14, 1811 in Berlin ; † 1870 there ) was a German sculptor .
Life
Jakob Alberty, a Jew born out of wedlock, first learned wood carving and then attended the Berlin Academy with Ludwig Wichmann . In 1837 he married Male Demuth, the daughter of a pawnbroker. The Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. promoted him with some assignments. In 1840 Alberty got the order for twelve apostles for the Sacrower Heilandskirche near Potsdam (based on the model of the Sebaldusgrabes by the sculptor Peter Vischer ). He was often commissioned by the Prussian court to manufacture wood-carved furniture ( Berlin Palace , Stolzenfels Palace ). He also ran a bronze factory for a few years. In 1846 Alberty joined the Society of Friends , in 1851 he was awarded the title of “Royal Prussian Court Wood Sculptor”.
