The Yakut cattle ( Russian якутский скот , transcribed jakutski skot; Yakut саха ынаҕа , saxa ınağa ) is a country cattle breed from Russia .

Breeding history

The Yakut cattle is a subgroup of the Siberian cattle . Originally it comes from the area around Batagai-Alyta (Sakkyryr) and Kustur west of Verkhoyansk , in the valley of the Bytantai and its tributaries. The breed was widespread in Yakutia until the first half of the 20th century . From 1929 onwards, she was pushed back from the European part of Russia by cross-breeding with Simmental and the Kholmogorje breed.

Characteristics

Occurrence

Today (2009) only 0.3 percent of the cattle in Sakha are Yakut cattle. In 1980 there were only 653 animals left in Verkhoyansk Raion .
