Jalon signpost for the Swiss Army

A Jalon ( according to the regulations: signpost) is a temporary sheet metal troop sign in the Swiss Army . In contrast to permanently mounted military traffic signs, which can be recognized by the black writing on a yellow background, blinds are placed on metal wire stands that are smashed into the roadside.

Jalons are used, for example, in the vicinity of a temporary military facility for people-independent guidance. On the jalons, the abbreviation of the unit (s) to which these jalons apply is usually indicated, e.g. DUO for the officers' school of the transmission troops . However, symbols such as gears (for workshops), crosses (for sanitary facilities) or other generally recognized abbreviations are also possible.

According to the regulations, a Jalon should be installed 50 meters before the junction on the right-hand side of the road. The tip points in the direction to be driven at this junction. After the junction, a confirmation jail can be placed in complicated circumstances.

By means of Jalonieren , a soldier assigned for this task (usually traffic soldier Vrk Sdt) provides the route of a military unit with directions.
