James A. Donohoe
James A. Donohoe (born August 9, 1877 in O'Neill , Holt County , Nebraska , † February 26, 1956 ) was an American lawyer and politician . After his appointment by President Franklin D. Roosevelt , he served as a federal judge in the Federal District Court for the District of Nebraska from 1933 until his death in 1956 .
Career
After attending school, James Donohoe graduated from Fremont Normal College , where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1898 . In 1905 he completed his training in a law firm, after which he began to work as a lawyer himself. He pursued his private practice until he was appointed to the government service in 1933. From 1908 to 1909, Democrat Donohoe sat in the Nebraska Senate . In 1919 and 1920 he was a delegate to the constitutional convention of his state. He also took part in the 1932 Democratic National Convention in Chicago , where Franklin D. Roosevelt was first nominated as a presidential candidate.
On April 15, 1933, Donohoe was appointed a judge on the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska by President Roosevelt ; he succeeded Joseph William Woodrough , who moved to the federal appeals court for the eighth district. After confirmation by the US Senate, which came five days later, he was able to take office on April 27. From 1948 he stood before this federal court as Chief Judge . James Donohoe died on February 26, 1956 and was buried in Calvary Cemetery , Omaha . His seat fell to Richard Earl Robinson ; the presidency of the court was taken over by John Wayne Delehant .
