James T. Richardson

James T. Richardson (* 1941 ) is an American sociologist , professor of sociology and law at the University of Nevada, Reno . Richardson specializes in social and behavioral evidence, sociology of religion and emerging religious movements , sociology of law and social movements . He's particularly open about celebrity cases like Elizabeth Smart and Patty Hearst . He is a scientific critic of brainwashing theories.

Education and career

In 1965, James T. Richardson received his bachelor's degree in sociology from Texas Tech University . In 1966 he received a master's degree in sociology from the same university. In 1968 he received his PhD in sociology from Washington State University . In 1986 he received his PhD from the Nevada School of Law. He has been an active teacher for 30 years and spent most of his time at the University of Nevada, Reno , where he is currently Professor of Sociology and Law.
