Jan Lála (born September 10, 1938 in Libická Lhotka , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czechoslovak football player . With the Czechoslovak national team he was runner-up in 1962.

Career

Jan Lála started playing football at Meteor Žižkov, a smaller club in Prague . Later the defender played for Čechie Karlín. At the age of 17 Lála moved to Slavia Prague , where he made his debut in the first team in 1956. Initially, he was mainly used as an all-rounder in midfield, eventually he found a permanent position on the right side of defense.

1958 Lála left Slavia to do his two-year army service with Dukla Pardubice. At the end of his engagement in Pardubice , he was accused of postponing a game. Lála was threatened with a two-year ban, which they finally refrained from.

In 1960 Lála returned to Slavia, which was relegated to the 2nd division at the end of the season, but managed to get promoted again in 1961/62. Lála, meanwhile one of the best right-backs in Czechoslovakia, was appointed to the national team on April 22, 1962 as a second division player. Sparta Prague vied for the young defender , he was urged to move to the army club Dukla Prague , but Lála resisted and stayed with Slavia.

At the Soccer World Cup in Chile in 1962 he was an important pillar of the Czechoslovak team, which played its way into the final, which was lost 3-1 to Brazil . By 1967 Lála completed 37 international matches, in the 2-1 win against Poland on October 28, 1962, he scored his only goal. In 1964 he played in a European team against Yugoslavia .

At the club level Lála could not celebrate any great success and remained without a title. Slavia rose again from the 1st division in 1963 and this time only returned after two years in the 2nd division in 1965. In the 1965/66 season, the promoted team only missed winning the championship because of the worse goal difference.

At the age of almost 31, Lála Slavia left Prague for Switzerland , where he missed the title by just one point with Lausanne-Sports in the 1969/70 season. In 1973 he returned to Czechoslovakia and ended his career at Spartak Ústí nad Labem.
