Johannes "Jan" van Aartsen (born September 15, 1909 in Amsterdam , † April 2, 1992 in Vlissingen , Zeeland ) was a Dutch politician of the Anti-Revolutionaire Partij (ARP).

biography

Van Aartsen was an alderman for the city of The Hague . In 1958 he was appointed Minister for Transport and Water Management in the government of Prime Minister Louis Beel . In the subsequent cabinet of Jan de Quay he was Minister for Housing and Construction between 1959 and 1963, before he was again Minister for Transport and Water Management from 1963 to 1965 in the government of Prime Minister Victor Marijnen .

1965 he was appointed Queen Juliana of the Royal Commissioner (Commissaris van de Koningin) of the province of Zeeland . He held this office until 1974.

Van Aartsen was the father of the politician Jozias van Aartsen , who was foreign minister of the Netherlands from 1998 to 2002.
