The Jane Basin is a backarc basin in the Antarctic Weddell Sea . It lies on the southern edge of the base of the South Orkney Islands .

It was discovered during a voyage on the Spanish polar research ship Hespérides between 1996 and 1997. It is named after the brig Jane of the British navigator James Weddell .
