The Hesperides (A 33) is a Spanish polar research ship .
The ship is operated by the Spanish Navy . The Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia (MEC) is responsible for the use of the ship.
history
The ship was in 1988 on the Bazán shipyard in Cartagena to set keel . The launching of the ship took place on March 12, 1990th
The ship entered service in 1991.
Technical data and equipment
The ship is propelled by two electric motors with an output of 1400 kW each , which act on two fixed propellers. In addition, the ship is equipped with stern and bow thrusters .
Power is supplied by four diesel generators, two of which have an output of 1300 kW and two have an output of 750 kW. There is also an emergency generator on board.
The ship has a helicopter platform. It has a range of 12,000 nautical miles .
The ship is classified by Lloyd's Register of Shipping . It has ice class 1C and can drive through ice up to 0.5 m thick at 5 knots.
