Jane F. Gardner

Jane F. Gardner (* 1934 ) is a British ancient historian .

Gardner is an internationally respected representative of her subject. Her research on the role of women in the Roman Empire and the Roman family and society is considered outstanding. From 1993 until her retirement on October 1, 1999, she was Professor of Ancient History at the University of Reading . She was named Doctor of Letters by Oxford University in 1999 for her outstanding monographs . At the university she held high management positions.

With two highly acclaimed source collections, she tried to open up the ancient world for non-specialists as well. Gardner also emerged as a translator. Your translations of the Gallic War and the Civil War of Caesar are still being reprinted after 30 years. At Reading University's Ure Museum of Greek Archeology , Gardner was a long-time curator and loaner of special exhibitions.
