Janus II

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Janus II was a French diving company carried out in September 1970 , where the three aquanauts Patrick Cadiou, Christian Cornillaux and Michel Liogier spent eight days in the Gulf of Ajaccio at a depth of 255 meters, a new peak value, as no one had been under for that long until then had worked on such a high column of water. On average, the time each diver spent working on the ocean floor was between three and four hours. It was the CNEXO (Center national pour l'exploitation des océans) and the oil company Elf who prepared this experiment, which went beyond experiments and simulations in the laboratory or caisson , with research work over several years. On March 11, 1971, the divers received the badge des Chevaliers de l'ordre du Mérite for their performance from the hands of Jacques Chaban-Delmas .
