The Jardines del Humaya cemetery is located on the southern outskirts of Culiacán , the capital of the Mexican state of Sinaloa . It opened in 1966.

Lamberto Quintero Payan , a marijuana smuggler murdered in 1976, was the first known drug trafficker to be buried in this cemetery. Meanwhile, the Pantéon Jardines del Humaya has become the final resting place for numerous Mexican drug lords ( Arturo Beltrán Leyva , 1961-2009 ; Ignacio Coronel , 1954-2010) and members of drug cartels (wife and 2 children of Héctor Luis Palma Salazar , alias El Güero ).

The magnificent tombs, some of which have several floors, are evidence of the wealth of the narcos buried there . The "city within the city" is an example of both narco architecture and the Mexican death cult .
