The Jardins de Walter Benjamin are a small garden in Barcelona , Spain . You are in the Poble Sec district, not far from Plaça de la Carbonera. The Jardins de Walter Benjamin are named after the Jewish literary critic and philosopher Walter Benjamin . The garden was dedicated to Benjamin , who had committed suicide in September 1940 while fleeing the Gestapo in Portbou , a small coastal town in Catalonia .

The Walter Benjamin Gardens are characterized by the colorful graffiti walls along the gardens.
