Jaser (Bible)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Bible Jaser is described as the main place in the "Land of Jaser", to which other daughter "cities" are said to have been subordinate. According to the biblical record , the Amorites lived there and were driven out by the Israelites under Moses (Num. 21, 31-32). According to this, the Gad tribe is said to have settled there to practice cattle breeding (Num 32.1-4; Num 32.34-36; Jos 13.24-28). According to Jos 21: 38-39, Jaser was an asylum town of the Levites (cf. 1 Chr 6: 65-66). It was later conquered by the Moabites (Isa 16: 7-9; Jer 48: 31-32). The location of Jaser is unknown. It will be on the edge of the desert to the west or northwest ofRabbat-Ammon suspects.
