Lists on the subject

The Javelin is a British-made anti-aircraft missile . The system can be used by one man and is used to combat low-flying targets.

The Javelin is from the shoulder or a special boot device called Javelin LML - Lightweight Multiple Launcher ( Light Javelin multiple launcher fired). The LML includes three missiles and can be mounted on a vehicle.

The javelin was developed to replace the blowpipe , which had proven extremely inefficient in the Falklands War and when used by the mujahideen in the Soviet-Afghan war .

The Javelin is similar to the Blowpipe in its external appearance, but is built a little more compact and equipped with a more advanced seeker head and an improved warhead . In order to be able to recognize targets, the shooter is equipped with an optical target device with six times magnification and a telephoto video camera. After the missile is fired, the shooter will keep the targeted target in the crosshairs and the control unit will direct the missile to the currently targeted point. Although smoke, fog or clouds make the use of the Javelin much more difficult, it is claimed that it is almost impossible to use flares to deflect it from the target - probably because of the manual control of the rocket .

The successor to the Javelin is the Starstreak . In 1993 the Javelin was replaced by this system in Great Britain. The Canadian armed forces have replaced the missile with the Starburst .

The British Javelin surface-to-air missile should not be confused with the American Javelin - anti-tank guided missile .
