Jazz Magazine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jazz Magazine is a French jazz magazine founded in 1954 by music producer, jazz band leader and club owner Eddie Barclay , whose wife Nicole and Jacques Souplet . Soon after it was founded, Frank Ténot (who came from Jazz Hot ) and the photographer, radio host and later publisher of Paris Match Daniel Filipacchi became the editors-in-chief and, from 1956, the owners. In the 1960s, Jean-Louis Ginibre was editor-in-chief, followed by Philippe Carles in 1971 , who held this position until 2006.

Jacques Souplet, who wrote for Jazz Hot like Tenot, later co-founded the Antibes Jazz Festival , general manager of Barclays record company ( Disques Barclay ) and of CBS Disques (the French CBS ). Longstanding authors included Philippe Carles (since 1962) and Jean-Pierre Moussaron .

In 2009, Jazzman magazine, founded in 1992, was absorbed. It was initially a free supplement to Le Monde de la Musique and appeared in 1995 with the first independent issue. Like Jazz Magazine, it was owned by Nemm Gestion, directed by Frank Tenot's daughter Sarah Tenot.

The magazine appears monthly. Currently (2012) Frédéric Goaty is editor-in-chief.
