Jean-Armand Calgaro

Jean-Armand Calgaro (* 1947 ) is a French civil engineer.

Calgaro studied at the École Polytechnique and the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées , graduating in 1972. After that, he was first civil engineer at the technical section of the French Ministry of Transport (SETRA). After seven years he turned to prestressed concrete bridges and designed a total of around 20 large bridges. He also headed the computer programs department for bridge design. From 1994 to 2003 he headed a department he founded for research programs and standardization in civil engineering.

Since 1987 he has been involved in the development of the Eurocodes, from 2004 as head of the French group.

He is professor of structural engineering and bridge construction at the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées and headed the civil engineering department from 1989 to 1996.
