Jean-Baptiste Schleich

Jean-Baptiste Schleich (* 1942 in Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourg civil engineer.

Schleich studied civil engineering at the University of Liège , graduating in 1967. From 1967 to 1969 he was assistant to R. Baus at the University of Liège. He then spent twelve years (1969 to 1980) with steel manufacturer Paul Wurth SA in Luxembourg. From 1992 he taught at the University of Liège, where he became professor in 1998. In 2005 he retired. From 1984 to 2002 Schleich was also head of the research department at the steel construction group Arbed in Luxembourg, where he had been from 1980. He is a consulting engineer for building fire safety.

From 2005 to 2007 he was visiting professor at RWTH Aachen University on fire safety in buildings.

Schleich is a leading European expert in fire protection design, especially in steel construction.

He made a major contribution to the Eurocodes, especially on steel construction and fire safety. Schleich was President of the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS) three times .

In 2007 he received the Charles Massonnet Prize . In 1996 he received the German Steel Construction Award.
