Jean-Jacques Mounier

Jean-Jacques Mounier (born June 12, 1949 in Lisbon ) is a former French judoka . He was Olympic third in 1972 and European champion from 1970 to 1972.

The 1.74 m tall Mounier from the Judo Club Raincy Villemomble started in the lowest weight class of his time, the lightweight up to 63 kilograms.

Mounier won a bronze medal at the European Championships in 1969. In 1970 he won his first European title in East Berlin by beating Sergej Suslin from the Soviet Union in the final . In 1971 Mounier won the French championships for the first time after finishing second behind Serge Feist in 1970 . At the European Championships in Gothenburg in 1971, he defeated Schengeli Pikelauri from the Soviet Union in the final . In the same year Mounier also won the military world championships. In 1972 he won the French championships. In the final of the European Championships in Voorburg, he defeated Sergej Suslin. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , the Japanese Takao Kawaguchi and Mounier won the two pool finals. In the semifinals, Mounier was defeated by the Mongolian Bachaawaagiin Bujadaa , who had made it to the semifinals via the hope round , and Mounier received the bronze medal. 1973 Mounier won the French championships for the third time. At the Judo World Championships in 1973 Mounier lost in the semifinals to the Japanese Yoshiharu Minami and then lost the fight for the bronze medal against the Cuban Héctor Rodríguez . Mounier was still active until 1977, but could no longer qualify for international championships.
