Jean-Louis Gouraud

Jean-Louis Gouraud (born March 2, 1943 in Paris ) is a French journalist, editor and writer.

At the age of eighteen he founded a publishing house that published travel guides, among other things. He also wrote for Le Figaro , Aurore and Combat. From 1968 to 1975 he was a staff member and at times editor-in-chief of Jeune Afrique . In 1986 he created the Caracole series , which was devoted to the horse theme with over 50 titles, and in 2003 the Cheval-Chevaux series was added by Éditions du Rocher. In the works of this series, the role of the horse in history, literature and biographies is emphasized.

In addition to numerous other trips to different continents, Jean-Louis Gouraud attempted to ride from Paris to Moscow in 1990. He covered the 3333 km in 75 days with his two riding horses.

His story Serko , which deals with the 9000 km ride of the Cossack Dimitri Pechkov on the horse Serko, was filmed by Joël Farges after the author's spectacular journey .

Jean-Louis Gouraud is committed to the preservation and dissemination of Berber and Turkmen horse breeds and was involved in the restoration initiative in favor of the Russian tsars' horse cemetery at the end of the 20th century .
