The Pfeffersee (also Pfaffersee on the historical plat still Pfäfer Lake ) is a 2.3 hectare large lake 150 meters east of the pleasure craft harbor of Chieming at more than 3000 times as large Chiemsee , just east of Grabenstätter Road ( State Road 2096 ). It is a good 180 meters long (north-south) and between 70 meters in the south and 140 meters in the north. The water level is 530 meters above sea level and thus almost 12 meters higher than the Chiemsee, 150 meters away. The Pfeffersee drains into the Krebsbach in the north, and this further into the Chiemsee. The small lake was created as a dead ice hole . The Krebsbach consolidated its course about 30 meters north of the dead ice hole before it thawed. This saved the lake from being quickly filled up by debris .

The lake is located in a nature reserve and bird sanctuary .

Some historical details about the Pfeffersee can be found in a classified ad with the heading “Seebad” in the Augsburger Abendzeitung on Sunday, June 14th, 1868:

In the friendly parish village of Chieming, on the eastern bank of the Chiemsee, with a lovely panoramic view of the mountains, the undersigned has a comfortable bathing hut in the Pfeffersee, whose extremely soft and mild water, according to medical reports, is ideal for methodically used cold baths and invite all those who want to enjoy the benefits of a seaside resort in rural tranquility to use it; because both the undersigned and the two very good inns comfortably furnished rooms with good beds at cheap prices can be rented by the day and by the week.
There is also an opportunity for lovers of fishing as well as boat trips both in the Chiemsee and in the Pfeffersee, which is rich in carp and catfish.
Housing orders could be sent to owners.
