Jetavana
Jetavana ( Sanskrit Jetavana = " Grove of Jeta") is the name of a park near Shravasti in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .
Buddhism
Shravasthi is said to have been the Buddha's favorite place , where he spent 19 or even 24 rainy seasons and preached a large part of his teachings. The land belonged to Prince Jetakumara and was allegedly bought by the merchant Anathapindika for 1.8 million gold pieces to build a monastery on it. Jetavana Monastery was dedicated to Buddha and has long been considered one of the most famous monasteries in India.
Attractions
On the area of approx. 300 × 400 m there are today stupas and monastery ruins, as well as one of the most sacred trees of Buddhism - the Bodhi tree (Ficus religiosa) of Ananda .
