Jo Bentfeld
Jo Bentfeld , actually Hans Joachim Karl Blankenburg , (born June 22, 1932 in Ostrach , Sigmaringen district ) is a German travel writer who tells about his experiences as a " dropout " in the Yukon wilderness in Canada , but also tells tourist travel guides about this area issues.
Life
Jo Bentfeld grew up in Ostrach. He completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter and then worked as such for five years. In 1955 he joined the police force and received his basic training at the "Carl Severing" state police school in Münster / Westphalia. There he received his degree as a police superintendent. In addition, he obtained the advanced technical college certificate and studied economics and constitutional law in Bochum. He then worked as a specialist lecturer in Bochum.
After a long stay in Scandinavia, he went to the far north of Canada in 1984, to the central Yukon territory. Since then he has lived there without address and inaccessible wilderness, in a self-built log cabin, three days' walk from the last forest path, 150 km north of his closest neighbors, the Indians of Ross River. In the summer of 1992, an ARD film team shot a documentary As Robinson in the Rocky Mountains .
Participation in talk shows, radio interviews and newspaper reports, including Stern 4/91 with the ten-page photo report by a Stern reporter who visited the hut on Jo's Lake for ten days during the winter, contributed significantly to the author’s popularity.
His wife Sabine has shared all of his ventures since 1998. On New Year's Eve 2000 they got married in a log cabin in Canada. Every year the author goes to Germany for a short lecture tour in winter.
