Joachim Ragnitz

Joachim Ragnitz (* 1960 in Nordhorn / Lower Saxony) is an economist with a focus on political advice for Eastern Germany.

life and work

He studied economics at the University of Cologne and initially worked there as a research assistant at the Chair of Economic Policy (1986–1989) and did his doctorate with a thesis on international capital flows. In 1989 he switched to the scientific staff of the Advisory Council to assess the overall economic development in Wiesbaden. From 1994 to 2007 he worked as a department head at the Halle Institute for Economic Research. Since 2007 Joachim Ragnitz has been deputy managing director of the Dresden branch of the Ifo Institute for Economic Research and a lecturer at the TU Dresden , where he was made an honorary professor in 2011 . He is a member of various advisory commissions at federal and state level. His main field of work is the economic development in East Germany . Furthermore, he deals scientifically with questions of fiscal federalism and the economic implications of demographic change . In the 2014 FAZ economists ranking, it was 67th.
