Iodine egg

Iodine eggs are a functional food development by the Technical University of Munich and the Institute for Nutritional Science in Freising . In 1998 the researchers investigated whether chicken feed containing iodine could produce eggs that would improve the consumer's iodine supply; this succeeded both with potassium iodate and with algae extracts rich in iodine. A Lithuanian-German working group came to the same conclusion in 2002. According to a message from the German Nutrition Society , a company is said to have been interested in the product. So far, however, no iodine-rich eggs have reached market maturity (in contrast to the quite common omega-3 eggs ).
