The Tallinn TV tower ( Estonian Tallinna teletorn ) in the Estonian capital Tallinn is 314 m high, after the Riga TV tower (368.5 m), the tallest free-standing structure in Northern Europe and was erected on the occasion of the Summer Olympics in Moscow . The foundation stone was laid on September 25, 1975, the opening on July 11, 1980. The Finnish coast can be seen from the 170 m high viewing platform when visibility is clear (approx. 70 km). In addition to the viewing platform, there is also a restaurant in the tower basket .
The architects of the TV tower in Tallinn were Juri Sinis and Dawit Basiladze . The tower shaft consists of reinforced reinforced concrete rings with a thickness of 50 centimeters. The total mass of the tower is given as around 20,000 tons. The tower survived a fire during the construction period. The viewing platform has a diameter of 38 meters and can be reached via two elevators.
On November 26, 2007 the television tower was closed to visitors and was completely renovated. It was reopened to the public on April 5, 2012.
