Johann Michael Klein

Johann Michael Klein (* 1692 in Ottobeuren ; † December 17, 1767 there ) was a German carpenter . In 1753 he created the roof structure of the St. Alexander and Theodor basilica in Ottobeuren in Upper Swabia . The roof truss is one of the great masterpieces of baroque carpentry and is still used for studies today.

Klein left an inscription plaque:

The house of God is erected
in honor and in the name of Jesus Christ
by Johann Michael Klein
court carpenter all alone.
Citizens, subjects,
don't mix me up
as what my craft brings.
Read one short or long
as he wishes me the heavenly fatherland 1753.
