João Vieira is an island in the east of the Bissagos Archipelago . It is located off the coast of Guinea-Bissau in the Atlantic Ocean in the immediate vicinity of the west coast of the northern half of Africa .
The island is part of the Bubaque administrative sector .
The island is an important breeding area for sea turtles and the center of the Parque Nacional Marinho João Vieira e Poilão . South of the island is the small island of Maio , north of it the island of Roxa and west of Cavalos .
