Johann of Évreux

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann († 1193 ) was a bishop of Évreux in the 12th century.

Johann was elected Bishop of Évreux in 1181 at the instigation of Henry II of England , and he had proven himself to be his loyal follower. In 1191 he accompanied Richard the Lionheart on the third crusade and on May 12th in Limassol he crowned the newly wedded wife of the king, Berengaria , queen of England. This process was noteworthy insofar as Johann, as Bishop of Évreux, did not belong to the English episcopate.
