The Johannes von Tepl monument (also called Johannes von Saaz bust) is in the monastery garden in Žatec , the former garden of the city's Capuchin monastery.

history

The monument is dedicated to the German poet, town clerk and notary Johannes von Tepl (* around 1350 in Schüttwa, West Bohemia; † 1414 in Prague). It was donated by the Saaz Local History Museum and inaugurated in October 2011. The bust was made by the sculptor Urs Koller from Rohrschach / Switzerland.

On the front you can read in Czech and German:

Saaz - you happier among the sister cities in Bohemia, in you Johannes Henslin lived and worked from 1383 to 1411. He was the director of the Latin school founded in 1256, city clerk, city notary, author of the dispute "The tiller and death", the most important prose work in Year 1400. He gave the city of Saaz in Bohemia a high reputation and fame.

Donated by the Saaz Local History Museum in 2011

On the back there is the inscription in the form of a Latin cross :
