John Richard Attlee, 3rd Earl Attlee (born October 3, 1956 ) is a British Conservative Party politician and peer .

life and career

Attlee was born on October 3, 1956 to Martin Richard Attlee, 2nd Earl Attlee and Anne Barbara Henderson.

From 1967 to 1991 he held the courtesy title of Viscount Prestwood . In 1991 he inherited the title of Earl Attlee and has been a member of the House of Lords ever since . First he was Crossbencher , in 1997 he switched to the Tories . He was whip the opposition three times : from 1997 to 1999, from 2002 to 2005 and again since 2007. When the House of Lords Act 1999 abolished the inheritance of upper house seats, he was one of the hereditary leagues elected to remain in Parliament.

Attlee was the opposition spokesman for the following areas:

family

He is the grandson of Clement Attlee and has a younger sister, Lady Jane Elizabeth Attlee (* 1959). Attlee has been married to Celia Jane Plummer since 1993. Since he has so far been childless, his title of nobility threatens to expire in the event of his death.
