John G. Brainerd

John G. Brainerd ( August 7, 1904 , † February 1, 1988 ) was an American electrical engineer.

Life

John G. Brainerd received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1925 , at whose Moore School of Electrical Engineering he then worked. In 1934, Brainerd earned his doctorate and became a professor of electrical engineering.

In June 1929 he published a theory for a four-electrode vacuum tube ( tetrode ).

Around 1942, John G. Brainerd and J. Presper Eckert initiated the PX ( ENIAC ) project, which he oversaw. While Eckert and John W. Mauchly left university to start their own company, Brainerd stayed at Moore School and became its director in 1954.
