John Palmer

John Palmer (* 1959 ) is a British composer , pianist and musicologist.

Life

John Palmer studied piano in Zurich and at the Lucerne School of Music with Grazia Wendling and Eva Serman , where he received his piano diploma. He took composition courses with Edisson Wassiljewitsch Denissow and Vinko Globokar . His postgraduate studies took him back to London, first to Trinity College of Music , where he received his Fellowship Diploma in Composition, then to the Royal Holloway University of London and City University London , where he received his doctorate in composition. He studied conducting with Alan Hazeldine at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and analysis with Jonathan Cross at the University of Bristol . Palmer studied with Vinko Globokar and took part in international master classes in Dartington , England. Then he dealt particularly with the music of Jonathan Harvey , whom he consulted regularly for two years.

Since 1980 Palmer has composed numerous works for orchestra and various chamber music ensembles, as well as instrumental, choral and electroacoustic music. Performances and concert activities as a composer, pianist and performer with live electronics have taken him to Europe, America and Asia.
