John Propitius

John Propitius (* 1953 in Baarn ) is a Dutch organist , composer and choir director .

Life

Propitius studied after first organ lessons with Gijsbert Brinks and Jaap Zwart sen. at the Conservatory in Utrecht with Nico van den Hooven and Jan Welmers. Since he was sixteen he was organist at the Reformed (Calvinist) church in his home parish of Baarn. In 1977 he became organist at the Oude Kerk in Barneveld , and in 1997 at the Reformed Church in Driebergen . For health reasons he stopped his concert activity in 2009, but is still active as a choir director in Soest , Hilversum and Amerongen .

He is known for his psalms interpretations and spiritual songs. He made various records and CDs.
