John de Ros, 5th Baron de Ros

John de Ros, 5th Baron de Ros (* around 1365, † February 11, 1394 in Paphos ) was an English nobleman and politician.

Origin and family

John de Ros came from an old Anglo-Norman family and was born as the son of Thomas de Ros, 4th Baron de Ros around 1365, as he was around 16 to 20 years old when his father died in 1383.

Life

Since he was not of legal age when his father died, his inherited lands were administered by his guardian, the Earl of Oxford. After reaching the age of majority, on October 16, 1386, he was given power of disposal over his goods. Before that he had served as King Edward III's banneret since 1383 . served in the war against Scotland, which he subsequently accompanied in this campaign until 1385. From August 1386 until his death he regularly received a writ of summons for the sessions of parliament that were taking place. John de Ros continued to be used in the military. In 1387, he sailed to France under the Earl of Arundel to take part in the war against the French. In June 1389 he became Joint Warden of the West March of Scotland.

He died on February 11, 1394 on his return from a pilgrimage to Jerusalem in Paphos on the island of Cyprus. He was married to Mary Percy since August 6, 1389. Since this marriage remained childless, his brother William de Ros, 6th Baron de Ros inherited his lands and his title.
